Patrick Putnam graduated from Harvard in 1925. While in college he was inspired by Professor E. A. Hooton to try anthropological research and he joined an expedition to Dutch New Guinea. In 1927 Putnam went to Africa with Professor Frederic Wulsin and he remained in Africa for the rest of his life, gathering information on the Pygmies, and the plants and animals of the Belgian Congo.
